Mineral workings represent a disturbance of the land, so there will always be an impact on the ecology of the area. This impact must be assessed in advance and particular notice taken of rare or endangered species in the wider context of biodiversity. This section considers the ecological impact assessment in some depth and looks at good practice to preserve the wildlife and habitats during the life of the site.

Significant contributions to this section have been received from the partners listed above and they can be contacted for further information. Many of the other project partners listed in the partners tab on the top line menu have also contributed material in the form of comments, images and case studies.
