UKIC
United Kingdom Institute for Conservation. UKIC is the professional body representing those who care for the country?s cultural objects and heritage collections. The Institute exists to foster excellence in the provision of conservation services, to raise awareness of the importance of conservation skills, and to provide information and advice to those requiring conservation services.

Unconsolidated
Unconsolidated material is loosed or soft material which has not been compacted or hardened by cementation (sand to sandstone) or dewatering (mud to clay).
Rocks consisting of loosely coherent or uncemented particles, whether occurring at the surface or at depth.

USBM
United States Bureau of Mines. This was the department responsible for a great deal of research into mining and quarrying in the United States, including many aspects of blasting in mines and quarries.
